⚠️ Difficulty: Easy — Micranthemum Monte Carlo is one of the easiest carpeting plants for the aquarium. CO₂ is appreciated but not mandatory.
Micranthemum Monte Carlo (also known as Micranthemum Tweediei or pearlweed) is a light green ground cover with small, round leaves that grows creeping through the aquarium — similar to HC Cuba, but much easier and faster. Given sufficient light, the plant forms a dense, lush carpet in the foreground. Also suitable for tanks without a CO₂ system.

✂️ Care
Plant the stems at approximately 2 cm intervals in the substrate. The plant grows creeping and will naturally form a continuous carpet. Regular trimming encourages horizontal growth and keeps the carpet compact. Liquid fertilizers like Sera Florena support healthy growth.
💡 Planter's Tip
Monte Carlo is the ideal starter carpeting plant — faster and easier than HC Cuba, with a similar result. Combines beautifully with rocks or driftwood and with Eleocharis parvula for a varied foreground.
❓ Frequently asked questions
Can I keep Monte Carlo without CO₂?
Yes, you can. Without CO₂, the plant grows slower, but still forms a carpet with sufficient light.
How fast does Monte Carlo grow?
Under good conditions (high light + CO₂), Monte Carlo grows noticeably faster than HC Cuba. Expect a full carpet within 4–8 weeks.
Is this plant suitable for a shrimp tank?
Yes, completely shrimp-friendly.
