Atyopsis Moluccensis
The Asian Fan Shrimp, also known as Atyopsis Moluccensis, is a popular shrimp species.
This is mainly because this species is easy to care for and simply looks nice in your aquarium.
This species is native to somewhat colder, fast-flowing streams in Malaysia and breeds exclusively in brackish water.
The Asian Fan Shrimp grows to about 12 cm in size and can be kept in an aquarium with a size of 60 cm or more.
They feel most comfortable when you keep them in a small group.
The water temperature in your aquarium should not be too warm, between 15ºC and 25ºC. The PH value should be between 6.5 and 8.0.
Fan shrimp obtain their nutrients from the water using their 'fan hands'.
They like to sit on a piece of wood or stone in an open area with sufficient current, this way they have all the space and possibilities to filter fine (dust) food from the water.
Like other shrimp species, the Asian Fan Shrimp will molt occasionally, do not remove the molted shell from the aquarium as it is a good food source for the shrimp.
