Level: Beginner — Ceratophyllum Demersum (Hornwort) is one of the easiest aquarium plants — suitable for almost any aquarium.

Ceratophyllum Demersum, also known as Hornwort or Coontail, is a versatile plant that can be used as both a floating plant and a stem plant. The plant does not have roots but anchors itself via root-like rhizoids. Due to its rapid growth, it absorbs excess nutrients and helps prevent algae growth. ✂️ Care

Let the plant float freely or plant it loosely in the substrate — it does not need roots. The plant grows quickly and regularly forms side shoots. Prune regularly to prevent overgrowth; broken parts will grow into new plants. Liquid fertilizer like Sera Florena supports healthy growth.

💡 Planter tip

Ideal for new aquariums — its rapid growth absorbs excess nutrients and helps prevent algae growth. Provides excellent hiding places for young fish and shrimp. Suitable for coldwater aquariums.
