Natural Driftwood for Aquariums — Hiding Places, Breeding Grounds, and Food in One

Sera Drift Wood — dark brown root wood, available in two sizes

Level: Easy — Place directly. No special knowledge required.

Sera Drift Wood is natural driftwood in a dark brown color — a popular decoration element that is once again in high demand due to aquascaping. In addition to its decorative function, wood plays an important role in the well-being of fish and invertebrates: it creates hiding places and breeding grounds, serves as food for wood-eating catfish (cellulose), and the biofilm on its surface is a natural food source for shrimp and snails. Available in two sizes.

Soak the wood before placing it or weigh it down with stones so it doesn't float. Attach moss or Anubias with fishing line for a planted effect. Combine multiple pieces or combine with stones for a varied, natural layout.

💡 Tip

Even one piece of Drift Wood can transform a small aquarium into a beautiful eye-catcher. Combine with the Sera Scaper Root for extra delicate detail in your hardscape.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Will the wood float in the aquarium?
Driftwood may float initially. Soak it before placing or weigh it down with stones until it has absorbed enough water.

Is Drift Wood suitable for wood-eating catfish?
Yes — wood-eating catfish such as Plecos depend on cellulose in wood for their digestion. Drift Wood is an excellent food source.

Will the wood turn the water brown?
Wood may initially release tannins, which will lightly discolor the water. This is harmless and will disappear over time. Soaking before placement reduces this effect.
