The Tetra BioFoam is an advanced biologically active filter foam cartridge specifically designed for Tetra EX external filters. Its open-cell structure provides an enormous internal surface area for the colonization of beneficial nitrifying bacteria that convert ammonia and nitrite into less harmful nitrate. Rinse the BioFoam monthly with aquarium water — never with tap water, as chlorine kills beneficial filter bacteria. Replace only after long-term use or visible damage. Never replace all filter materials at once.

❓ Frequently asked questions

How often should I replace the BioFoam?
The BioFoam needs to be replaced less frequently than mechanical filter material. Rinse monthly and replace only when visibly damaged or after 1–2 years.

Why should I never rinse with tap water?
Tap water contains chlorine which kills beneficial filter bacteria. Always use aquarium water for rinsing biological filter material.
