Vallisneria Spiralis, also known as Straight Vallisneria, is the timeless classic of the aquarium world. The name refers to the spiral flower stalk when it blooms — the leaves themselves are straight, thin, and smooth. With its bright green color and leaves up to 80 cm, it is the perfect background plant for larger aquariums.

✂️ Care

Plant Vallisneria Spiralis with the crown just above the substrate in sand or fine gravel. The plant needs a lot of light for optimal growth. Always cut off overly long leaves at the base, never halfway. Liquid fertilizer such as Sera Florena supports healthy growth. Please note: sensitive to glutaraldehyde (Excel).

💡 Planter's tip

Plant in groups of 5–10 for a lush curtain effect in the background zone. The plant spreads quickly via runners — regularly remove excess runners. When blooming, the plant forms a thin, spiral flower stalk towards the water surface.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this plant called Spiralis if the leaves are straight?
The name refers to the spiral flower stalk that the plant forms when blooming — not to the leaves themselves.

My leaves turn brown after trimming — what am I doing wrong?
Always cut leaves at the base, never halfway. Cutting halfway causes brown tips.

Is this plant suitable for a shrimp tank?
Yes, completely shrimp-friendly.
