You will receive: 1 plant, ready to plant — freshly delivered from the nursery.

⚠️ Difficulty: Medium — Pogostemon Helferi requires a lot of light for its characteristic star-shaped rosette and compact growth.

Pogostemon Helferi, also known as Downoi or Little Star, is one of the most distinctive foreground plants in aquascaping. The unique star-shaped rosette of finely serrated, light green leaves makes this plant unmistakably present in the foreground. Discovered along the banks of the Ataran River in Thailand. With sufficient light, the plant remains compact and low — a field of green stars.

✂️ Care

Plant multiple rosettes with 3–5 cm spacing in the foreground. Plenty of light is crucial — with too little light, Downoi will grow upwards and lose its characteristic star shape. CO₂ and a nutrient-rich substrate promote compact, rapid growth. Liquid fertilizers like Sera Florena support healthy development. Regularly remove runners that grow too far.

💡 Planter's Tip

Ideal for Iwagumi and Nature Aquarium layouts. Combines beautifully with Anubias Nana on stone or Bucephalandra on wood — the star-shaped rosettes as a carpet under darker leaves provide maximum contrast.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

My plant grows upwards instead of forming a carpet — what's wrong?
This is caused by too little light. Increase the light intensity for compact, low growth with the characteristic star shape.

How does the plant spread?
The plant spreads via runners and will fill the foreground by itself. Remove runners that grow too far to keep the patch compact.

Is this plant suitable for a shrimp tank?
Yes, completely shrimp-friendly.
