Diamond salmon

Moenkhausia Pittieri

The Diamond Tetra originates from Venezuela, South America. This species falls under the family Carp Tetra and can reach a size of about 6 cm. The minimum size of the aquarium should therefore be at least 80 cm.

If you provide good planting in your aquarium, there is a good chance that eggs will be laid after a while. The Diamond Tetra prefers to do this in moss.

As the fish ages the fins will become longer and you will see more 'diamonds' developing.

This peaceful species is a suitable (beginners) fish for your community aquarium. But when adult, it can be combined with (relatively peaceful) South American cichlids. Then choose a group of about 15 Diamond Tetras so that they can form a natural school.

In terms of food, this species is not the most difficult. It does not matter whether you feed dry food, frozen food or live food, they simply eat what is in the pot. Although it is always wise to feed your fish stock with a variety.
