⚠️ Level: Advanced — Limnophila Hippuridoides requires a lot of light and CO₂ for the most beautiful purple-red leaf colors.
Limnophila Hippuridoides is a striking stem plant with finely branched, needle-like leaf whorls in a rare combination of green and deep purple-red. With strong lighting, the purple-red underside of the leaves intensifies to a deep burgundy — a color accent that adds warmth and depth to any aquascape. Originating from the shallow, clear waters of Asia.

✂️ Care
Plant 5–10 stems in a compact group in the mid- or background. Plenty of light is essential for the most intense purple-red leaf colors — with insufficient light, the color fades to green. CO₂ promotes faster, more compact growth with richer colors. Prune regularly and replant the tops for a denser, fuller group. Liquid fertilizer such as Sera Florena supports healthy growth.
💡 Planter's tip
The fine, feather-light leaf whorls move beautifully in the water current. Combines nicely with fresh green plants like Staurogyne Repens or Rotala Rotundifolia for maximum color contrast.
❓ Frequently asked questions
My plant is turning green instead of purple — what's wrong?
This is caused by too little light. Increase the light intensity for the most beautiful purple-red coloring.
Is this plant suitable for a shrimp tank?
