Lower and stabilize your aquarium pH safely

Seachem Acid Buffer is a professional pH-lowering product that safely and stably maintains a lower pH level in your aquarium water. Perfect for fish and plants that require softer, more acidic water, such as discus fish, dwarf cichlids, tetras, and many South American species.

Advantages

  • Stable pH control: Buffers water to a specific pH between 4.0 and 7.0, depending on dosage
  • Safe for all aquarium inhabitants: No harmful chemicals, safe for fish, shrimp and plants.
  • Prevents pH fluctuations: Creates a stable buffer that prevents sudden pH changes
  • Lowers kH (carbonate hardness): Softens water for species that prefer softer water
  • Compatible with Alkaline Buffer: For precise pH control between 5.0 and 7.0
  • Long lasting effect: Continues to actively buffer until it is used up

When to use?

  • For South American biotopes (Amazon, Rio Negro)
  • When keeping discus fish, dwarf cichlids or tetras
  • For soft water plants such as Cryptocoryne and Echinodorus
  • For shrimps that require softer water (Caridina species)
  • To make hard tap water suitable for soft water fish
  • In combination with RO water for precise water parameters

How does it work?

Seachem Acid Buffer lowers pH by converting carbonate hardness (kH) into CO₂. This process is safe and natural, creating a stable buffer that maintains your pH at the desired level. Unlike acids that only lower pH without buffering, Acid Buffer prevents dangerous pH fluctuations.

Usage

Standard dosage: 1 teaspoon (6 grams) per 80 liters of water lowers the pH by about 0.5-1.0 units, depending on your starting pH. For lower pH levels, you can increase the dosage.

Precise pH control: Combine Acid Buffer with Alkaline Buffer in varying ratios for precise pH levels between 5.0 and 7.0. For example: 2 parts Acid Buffer + 1 part Alkaline Buffer = pH 6.0

Directions: Dissolve the powder in a glass of aquarium water before adding. Add slowly while measuring the pH. Wait 30 minutes between doses to allow for stabilization.

Note: Large pH changes can be stressful for fish. Lower the pH gradually over several days (max. 0.5 pH per day) in established aquariums.

Contents: 300 grams - sufficient for several months of use in an average aquarium.
