The Pistia Stratiotes offers a good hiding place for fish with its long roots.
When this plant is placed in an open environment, such as a pond, the leaves can grow to about 15 cm, but in an aquarium they will often grow to 3 to 4 cm. Because the leaves are covered with fine hairs, the plant feels velvety soft.
However, the plant requires good ventilation or an open aquarium, otherwise the leaves will dry out.
