Diamond salmon

Moenkhausia Pittieri

The diamond tetra originates from Venezuela, South America. This species belongs to the carp tetra family and can reach a size of about 6 cm. Therefore, the minimum aquarium size should be at least 80 cm.

If you provide good planting in your aquarium, there's a good chance they'll lay eggs over time. The diamond tetra prefers to do this in moss.

As the fish ages the fins will become longer and you will see more 'diamonds' develop.

This peaceful species is a suitable (beginner's) fish for your community aquarium. However, when mature, it can also be combined well with (relatively peaceful) South American cichlids. In that case, choose a group of about 15 diamond tetras so they can form a natural school.

When it comes to feeding, this species isn't the most demanding. It doesn't matter whether you feed dry, frozen, or live food; they'll just eat whatever's on the table. However, it's always wise to feed your fish a variety of foods.
