How does it work?

Purigen is a macroporous synthetic polymer that works through ion exchange. It binds organic waste to its surface and removes it from the water. Its unique structure gives Purigen a huge surface area and allows it to absorb far more waste than traditional filter media. Its selective nature means it removes only harmful substances while leaving beneficial minerals behind.

Usage

Dosage: Use 250 ml of Purigen per 400 liters of aquarium water. For smaller aquariums, you can use less—100 ml is already effective in a 100-liter aquarium.

Placement: Place Purigen in a filter net or filter bag in your filter, preferably after mechanical filtration but before biological filtration. Ensure good water flow through the medium.

Regeneration: When Purigen turns dark brown, it is saturated. Regenerate it by soaking it for 24 hours in a solution of 1 part bleach to 2 parts water. Then rinse thoroughly and treat with Seachem Prime to neutralize chlorine. Purigen can be regenerated multiple times.

Shelf life: Fresh Purigen is effective for 3-6 months, depending on the organic load. After regeneration, the effectiveness may be shorter, but it remains effective.
