Keep in a group of at least 5 to 6 individuals, in an aquarium at least 120 cm long and 60 cm high. Provide plenty of plants, preferably Vallisneria or larger Echinodorus species. When a pair forms, they keep other fish at a distance to protect their eggs or young.

Naturally calm, but a pair may display territorial behavior around the breeding area. Combine with other calm, not too small community fish.
